Bartrom Comb
OCT 2024
Bubinga with corian inlay

I attended a wedding in Italy September ‘24. It was lovely. The officiant and I got to talking about a variety of topics but I found him to be intensely knowledgeable in the realm of men’s grooming and skin care. He imparted onto me great wisdom, so I got home and whipped up a small batch of combs as gifts.
The shape of this piece is a victim of pure function. I wanted a solid, functional wooden comb. Wood grain is strong when it’s long, so no matter how I milled the material it would be weak and liable to break when brushing through thick bristles, hence the corian spine.
I may revisit these combs in wenge or gaboon ebony with a brass spine someday.
