walnut with brass and poplar inserts

A jewelry box commission that allows room to flex some fun skills is always welcome. I tried to maximize usable space within this piece. The shoji-style dividers are removable, allowing the user to transfigure the poplar inserts to their jewelry’s specifications.
I hand shapes the main brass pull from some leftover brass stock we had lying around. There are also four brass feet I shaped on bottom, but apparently I didn’t photograph them. Classic. The drawer pull is Brusso as well as the hinges.
The poplar tray inserts with walnut dividers were the most fun part of this piece. Fitting them with a sharp plane was a delight. There are few fits more satisfying than a piston fit insert. The whoosh of the air escaping followed by the clack of wood on wood is a beautiful noise that only hand fit drawers and inserts can achieve.
