Medieval Modern Coffee Table

White oak with walnut plugs
a mid-century spin on medieval motifs

The Medieval Modern Coffee Table was born from a pile of white oak intended for barrel-making. Through some luck I was able to get my hands on a small pile of it, while the rest went to my mentor. This piece was an exercise in a few techniques I had never practiced before, such as the bread board top, walnut pyramid inlays and diamond stop chamfers. I created a simple design based on some gothic-era german castles and mid century modern houses, then went straight to work. The chamfered arches on the aprons are my favorite part of the piece, and I intend to do some more work with organic shapes.
