Black limba drawer faces with recessed brass pulls

This project began with function in mind first, as it was destined to be my personal desk. The drawer bank maximizes storage space. Not an inch is left unused. The middle drawer even features a sliding tray for storage of my writing utensils and accessories. The top is large and thin and despite a lack of aprons to stabilize the wood as it contracts and expands through the drastic Chicago seasons it has not warped in the slightest due to the milling techniques implemented. The leg structure is purely an exercise in joinery and an appreciation of Japanese temple building. A deep dive into Japanese joinery is time well spent and highly recommended. Tight joints and multiple rails prevent the desk from racking side to side, which was a large concern when I decided to build the piece without an apron. Desks are an incredible amount of fun to design and build. I hope to make many more in my future.
